The Olive Columns and the Park of Olives (Ramat Rachel)

A five-hectare environment project by Ran Morin, which includes 200 olive trees planted in 27 concentric rows leading to the central element: 11 m' high columns structure with olive trees.
Ran Morin stated that the Park of Olives, which was planted at the limit of a bloodstained political border, connects different elements in its surroundings and relates to ancient periods in which olive trees and plowed earth were characteristic to man's intervention in this arid landscape.
It was constructed with the assistance of modern horticultural techniques and advanced scientific knowledge; nevertheless, its spirit does not reflect victorious control of nature but rather expresses reverence and respect for its infinite beauty and strength.
The artistic project deals with mathematical & spiritual harmonies of the number three, and with its mysterious power to create a mean between opposing forces.
Concepts of having roots and disconnection, which mark the complex relation of our civilization with the earth, are central to the world of oppositions manifested in the sculpture's plastic form.
Olive trees, ancient symbol of strength, fertility, and peace, continue their life in a transplanted and disconnected state.
